This 4-hour boat tour starts from a small fishing village on the Cretan coast. You board a traditional wooden boat with a local fisherman who guides you through the fishing techniques used in these waters — handlines, casting, and reading the sea. Everyone gets a turn at the rod, and the fish you pull up goes straight into the onboard kitchen.
After fishing, the boat anchors in a quiet bay away from the main beaches. Guests can jump in for a swim or snorkel with the gear provided, or simply sit on deck while the captain and guide prepare the meal. The food is cooked onboard using the day's catch, seasoned with local herbs, and served with wine, beer, or soft drinks.
Pickup is included from a long list of hotels and resorts along the northern Heraklion coast — from Agia Pelagia in the west through Hersonissos, Malia, and as far east as Agios Nikolaos. The transfer vehicle collects guests before the tour and returns them to their accommodation afterward. Two sessions run each day: a morning departure at 08:00 and an afternoon departure at 15:00.
The group is capped at eight people, so the boat stays uncrowded and the fishing experience is hands-on rather than observational. Children aged 5 and up are welcome, and the activity requires no prior fishing experience. The tour is suitable for families, couples, and solo travelers looking for a half-day on the water away from the main tourist circuits.
