This full-day private tour takes you from Volos into the forested interior and Aegean coastline of Mount Pelion, covering four distinct areas in a single day. Your driver-guide picks you up directly from your hotel, the port, or Volos Airport and navigates the mountain roads in a modern Mercedes-Benz sedan or minivan depending on your group size.
The route begins in the Volos lowlands with a stop at Ano Lechonia to see the narrow-gauge Pelion railway, then climbs to Milies, where you walk the old train tracks to the De Chirico bridge — a working river bridge on the historic rail line — and visit a church concealed within the village architecture. From there the tour descends to the coast at Damouchari, the small harbor used as a filming location in the 2008 movie Mamma Mia. Here you have two hours to swim in the cove, walk the stone-paved lanes, and explore the medieval castle ruins above the port.
The afternoon takes you to Tsagkarada to see a plane tree documented at over 1,000 years old, and to waterfalls in the surrounding forest. The final stop before the return drive is Makrinitsa and Portaria, elevated villages with direct views over the Pagasetic Gulf. The driver-guide points out traditional architecture, and an optional section of the old mule-path network known as the Path of the Centaurs passes through here.
The tour is fully private — no shared groups — and the sequence of stops can be adjusted to your pace. The vehicle carries bottled water, soft drinks, Wi-Fi, USB charging, and child seats on request. Lunch is not included but the route passes several traditional tavernas where the driver can recommend stops.
